August Storm
2005
August Storm 2005
is a vibe of unique talent arriving in Lethbridge. Michael St. George and Wes
Kidd, aka Ras Easterley, present two afternoon drum clinics at Danceworks Studio
and two evening performances at the Tongue n Groove, August 22 – 23. Lethbridge
is one of their many stops in St. George’s international tour, originating from
Ontario, their home province and continuing throughout Canada and Europe. In the
Dubbin’ De Vibe Tour 2005, St. George is launching his newest album,
Dubbin’ De Vibes and is joined by the international percussionist, Ras
Easterly.
Easterly, inspired
and taught by Ras Michaels, a Niyabinghi specialist and master drummer, has also
performed with Eric Gayle, Peter Appleyard, Carol Weslman, Steven Stills, Ziggy
Marley, Ice Tea, Isaac Hayes, Ike Tumer, War, Acuna, Dave Myles, Jim Chevalier,
Blay Amboley Miata Sambula and Joe Higgs. Both St. George and Easterly have
developed and facilitated drum workshops for school groups, corporations,
private groups and events.
“The
workshops/clinics are a unique one-time opportunity for basic drum instruction
with a duo, skillfully practiced in the art of playing and teaching the jembé.
In addition, experienced drummers can learn and play Reggae music with
professional performers.” says Marlene Lacey, August Storm 2005 organizer and
publisher of Blue Grama Publications. Both performers have worked with many of
the greatest in the Reggae music industry. There will be something of interest
for every level of drummer. Registration is required for the afternoon drum
clinics/workshops. Call 320-5815.
Dynamic performer,
St. George inspires and uplifts his audiences with some of the finest innovative
Reggae music available today. St. George’s newest album contains two tracks that
originated as the poems, “Missing You” and “Caged In” in his debut book,
Night Spin, published by Blue Grama Publications in 2001. Night Spin
encapsulates his unique literary style and presents his honest, passionate view
towards local and international issues. Dubbin' De Vibes track, “See Us
Through”, co-produced with Benjy Myaz; identifies a global desire for spiritual
guidance. The album highlights St. George's exciting collaboration with other
prominent musicians including Orville, "Wyz" Malcolm, Iauwata Selassie, Paul
Kastic, Dalton Brownie, Pam Hall, Oku Onuora and Cherry Natural.
Copies of Night
Spin and Dubbin’ De Vibes will be available for sale at both the
workshops and performances. Blue Grama and the Tongue n Groove encourage the
general public and professionals to attend the workshops and performances and
get the opportunity to purchase author-signed editions of the book and album.
